Michael Shapiro spent his economic regeneration footprint placement doing marketing for the new Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot. The aim of his project was to reach out and involve local businesses in the centre.

Grappling with graphite: Michael Shapiro

I have been working within the Waste and Nuclear Materials Team on the strategy for disposing the graphite from old nuclear reactors. This material has been extensively used as a moderator within gas cooled reactors. In basic terms, it increased the efficiency of the reaction by slowing down the ‘fast neutrons’.

The science of flight! Michael Shapiro

My Footprints work has been involved with Millom school. Here I have been running experiments for 9 and 10 year old children. These have explored the science behind aeroplanes and flight, chemical reactions and volcanoes. We also ran a series of workshops for National Science & Engineering week along a similar theme.
