Decommissioning in North Wales

By Ben Mirza | lightbulbs | March 1, 2011

Being based at Trawsfynydd in Snowdonia has certainly been different! Early morning commuting can sometimes be tricky…….

It doesn't matter how late you are, the sheep take priority!

I’m currently working as part of the engineering team at Trawsfynydd Decommissioning Site and the work has been fast paced from the off – a result of the current dates for the site to enter ‘care and maintenance‘ as defined by Magnox Limited and the NDA.  My work is based around the removal of legacy waste (spent Magnox fuel cladding) from concrete vaults and packaging the waste in a manner suitable for long term storage/disposal.

The first secondment is now more than half over but shows no sign of slowing!
