Nuts and Bolts at Oldbury

By Mandy Lester | lightbulbs | October 6, 2011

Well, I’ve just started at Oldbury after a much appreciated holiday and had a great start. Work on the table, friendly people and even a few biscuits or two if you’re lucky enough during an Emergency Response Exercise! These are an opportunity for site staff to practise what to do in the event of a major incident on site, held regularly and assessed by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).

The major challenge for me this placement is to get to grips with the engineering basics. My degree was in physics but I am moving into mechanical engineering so really need to brush up on those nuts and bolts!
I’m lucky that the scheme is sponsoring me through an open university course to get the academic principles. However, there’s no substitute for hands on learning and that’s what I intend to get here at Oldbury.

Wish me luck!
