Scouts

Since joining nucleargraduates I have been keen to get involved in the scouting movement. I got in touch with the commissioner up in Caithness and was invited to the next Friday meeting. I had no idea of what to expect, I have been a beaver and cub but Scouts was never available to me. I thought I would just be observing for the first night but a shortage of leaders meant that I was thrown in at the deep end and was given a group to work with. The activity basically involved them giving me directions to various landmarks around Thurso in preparation for a German Troop coming to visit. This was helpful for me too, being new to the town, and I successfully followed their directions to the Tempest Cafe for breakfast the next morning.

I have gone every Friday since, being involved in Scout football has been the highlight so far, but I’ve never felt so rough after a game in my life. The social aspect has been great too, with the pub after each night.

It is a shame I am leaving as I have really felt a part of 2nd Thurso. We have organised a day in Dunnet Forest this Saturday which I am really looking forward to. BBQ and some games in the woods.
