Graduates are creative about the Olympics 2012

Nice outcome from visit to Body and Soul

I just heard that following Cohort Two’s day spent at Body and Soul as part of their first training workshop a year ago, Addleshaw Goddard, from whom we had heard about corporate social responsibility, have started supporting this AIDS related charity. An unexpected but welcome outcome.

Strategically Placed: Matt Dodds

I’m currently on my first nucleargraduate secondment based at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in Cumbria.
I work in the Strategy department and have helped to develop the NDA’s Strategy Management System (SMS).
I produce guidance documents for the various Strategic Authorities. These help our partners at the nuclear sites to develop their topic strategies. I’ve also helped [...]

Graduates South West on top of it at Yeo Moor

Hi Susie,
I am just writing you and email to keep you up to date with our Science Ambassador progress in the South West.  Last week Rhian and I met with Roland Lovatt, the head master of Yeo Moor primary school.  Following a tour of the school we discussed how our involvement could coordinate with Roland’s [...]

Didcot Science: Ste Mahay

As part of footprints, myself, Susan Elder and James Forde were working with an organisation called Didcot First that aimed to positively promote the town of Didcot.
One of their long term aims, due to there being many science centres in the local vicinity, was to posit Didcot as a science town. My project was [...]

The science of flight! Michael Shapiro

My Footprints work has been involved with Millom school. Here I have been running experiments for 9 and 10 year old children. These have explored the science behind aeroplanes and flight, chemical reactions and volcanoes. We also ran a series of workshops for National Science & Engineering week along a similar theme.

Making K’nex-xions: Lizzie Jordan

The footprints program took a while to get going but it was worth it.

I thoroughly enjoy the workshops we are running in different schools with year 6 children.  We are teaching engineering and control technology through the building of k’nex fairground rides and then using software to power motors and lights on the rides.

We [...]

It’s too late to apologise: Jon Easthope

For my community work, I have run day long science workshops on behalf of Science Oxford. We run these at primary schools in the Oxford area.
So far we have done workshops at Langley (nr Slough), Chilton & Cholsey (nr Harwell) and will soon visit two in the centre of Oxford.
We do this as there is currently a [...]

Didcot First: Jim Forde

In May 2008 I started work in the Radioactive Waste Management Directorate of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
This is a branch of the NDA that is responsible for setting up a UK Geological Disposal Facility for higher activity wastes.
I worked in the Environmental Management and Stakeholder Engagement team on a research project that help to work [...]

The other side of the rainbow: Hannah Hay

For each secondment we commit 10% of our time to corporate social responsibility work. At the moment I’ve been working in schools as a Science & Engineering Ambassador… but if anyone had told me a few months ago that I would be teaching science classes to seven to nine year olds… well, I would have [...]
